Description

Description: During the first half of the 20th century John E. Boos of Albany, NY contacted thousands of people who lived through the Civil War, had encounters with Abraham Lincoln, or had an interest in Lincoln. He asked that they write down their memories, or, in some cases, he sent them the text of the Gettysburg Address asking them to sign it and comment. We offer one such printed address which Josephus Daniels has signed and written in his own hand: “This classic surpasses any masterpiece of Ancient Greece or Rome or any of the moderns.”

Josephus Daniels (1862-1948) served as Secretary of the Navy in Woodrow Wilson’s cabinet and was U.S. Ambassador to Mexico under President Franklin Roosevelt.

Printed and written on a 9″ x 6 1/4″ sheet of paper. Item #A02018
