Admiral Richard Byrd (1888-1957) was a naval officer and a pioneering aviator, explorer and organizer of polar logistics known for his expeditions to the North and South poles; the veracity of his first claim has been debated. His second expedition to Antarctica was significant to the sciences, and the event was honored with a commemorative stamp. Byrd was the recipient of two prestigious awards, the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross.

Condition: Signature on insulation is faint, letter lightly toned. Generally in good condition.
