Description: American clergyman and educator Rev. Charles Thwing (1853-1937) sent this cheerful letter to Professor George Dwight Kellogg happily accepting his “gracious invitation to the Phi Beta Kappa dinner at the Ten Eyck”.
 
Thwing was a pastor in Cambridge, MA and Minneapolis MN and was president of Adelbert College and Western Reserve University. He was a member of the National Negro Committee, the organization that preceded the NAACP, and later was an active supporter of the NAACP.
 
Typed on a 6 ¼” x 8 3/8” sheet of Thwing’s personal stationery as President of Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Item #A00795.
 
Condition: Fold lines, some toning along one fold line, otherwise very good condition with a clear, bold signature.
