Description: In this autograph letter signed, Millais writes: “Dear Lord Beresford, The Star Razor received and used! Mystic, wonderful and no opportunity to cut one’s throat in a moment of dejection — you have conferred on me a blessing and possibly saved me from committing suicide. [?] indebted friend, J E Millais”.
Written on the front and back of a folded piece of 7″ x 9″ stationery imprinted: “2 Palace Gate, Kensington”. Tipped to the last blank page is a halftone of a painted portrait of Millais. Item #A01467
Sir John Everett Millais (1829-1896), the English painter and illustrator, was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. He was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1853 and became its president just before his death.
Condition: Some overall light toning, otherwise very good.
