Description: A chest-up vignetted portrait of Erastus Corning is the subject of this original 1860’s carte de visite photograph taken by Mathew Brady’s New York studio.
Erastus Corning (1794-1872) was an American businessman and politician. He was involved in the iron industry, banking, and railroads. He was also a mayor of Albany, NY (1834-37) who served two terms as a U.S. congressman (1857-59, 1861-63).
