Description: This one page stampless cover autograph letter signed states in part: “London May 26th 1820 My dear Mr. Hope I have spoken to the Duchess and am sorry to tell you that the cards are all sent out. She has hereby invited the Duke and Duchess of Clarence and I don’t think we could well put off the party now… Wellington.”
Sight size: 6 3/4″ x 8″, matted with a portrait and less than accurate transcription and framed to: 19″ x 23″. Item #A01800
Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (1769-1852) served twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He was among the commanders who defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo (1815).
Condition: Mailing fold lines, paper loss (not affecting text) from hastily opened wax seal, generally good condition (not examined out of frame).
