Description: In this letter dated March 6, 1800, American physician Benjamin De Witt (1774-1819) writes to Peter Elmendorph, an Albany, NY attorney, “Sir I have the Honor to inform you, that at a late meeting of the Society for the Promotion of Agriculture Arts & Manufactures you was [sic] duly elected a Member thereof”. De Witt signed as secretary.
Benjamin De Witt was a physician who published several scientific writings including “Oxygen” (1797), “An Oration” (1808), and “Minerals in New York”.
Written on a sheet of laid paper that measures: 9 ¼” x 7 ½”, includes integral address panel. The letter has been inlaid into a sheet of paper (i.e. 1/8″ perimeter glued into the cut out area of a sheet that measures: 9 ¾” x 8 1/8”). Item #A01383
Condition: Fold lines, piece of blank corner missing, generally good condition with a large, bold signature.
