Description: We offer a signed drawing by the American artist William Merritt Post. It is a sensitive pencil sketch of wildflowers along the edges of a marsh drawn on ivory paper, 3 ⅝”x 5 ⅝”, signed in ink “W. Merrit Post”. A poetic study that shows the foundation of Post’s layered and inviting painting compositions. Item #FA00148.

William Merritt Post was born in Brooklyn in 1865. He studied at the Art Students League, mentored by James Carroll Beckwith. In 1907 he served as secretary of the American Watercolor Society and was a member of the New York Watercolor Club, the Artists Fund Society, the Salmagundi Club, the Connecticut Academy of the Fine Art, the Philadelphia Art Society and the New York Society of Painters. His work is in the collections of the Newark Museum of Art and the Mattatuck Museum. He died in 1935 in Bantam, Connecticut.
