Description: This late 1880’s cabinet card photo is signed by Levi P. Morton. The photo shows the head and shoulders of Morton in almost complete profile. It was taken at the Parkinson Studio in New York and is on a gilded bevel-edged mount.
Levi Parsons Morton (1824-1920) served as the 22nd Vice President (1889-1893) under Benjamin Harrison, and later as the 31st Governor of New York (1895-1897). Before his prestigious political career, Morton made a living as a successful merchant, cotton broker, and investment banker. He was also a bit of a philanthropist, starting a convalescent home for children, the “Holiday Farm”,  which later became the Astor Home for Children. He was also one of the founders of the Metropolitan Opera and sat on the Board of Trustees for the American Museum of Natural History.
The photograph measures 5 ¾” x 4” on a mount that measures 6 ½” x 4 ¼”. Item #A00844.
Condition: A few errant marks, overall very good condition.
