Size: Octavo (standard book size). 4-volume set (complete). Text is in Portuguese. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Four volumes: Volumes I-III are bound in calf with red morocco labels and the number of the volume in gilt, Volume IV in calf with a green label. Rubens Borba de Moraes (1899-1986) stated about this publication: “What made the ‘Theatro Comico’ so desired was the fact that the first two volumes contain only plays by Antonio Jose da Silva, the Brazilian Jew burnt at the stake by the Inquisition, who was one of the greatest poets of the Portuguese language in the eighteenth century”. Each volume has some chips to the leather, bumped and lightly worn corners, previous owner’s signatures, some toning and minor to pages, generally very good and highly readable.
