Description / Comments:
Size: 4to – over 9¾” – 12″ tall. Green gilt stamped cloth over boards, unpaginated (155 pp. + 9 pp. adverts), brief biographies of 78 notable New Yorkers of the time, 76 of which have cartoon-like drawings of the person. “Within the covers of this little souvenir, the author has endeavored to incorporate a cross-section of official life in Albany as it is and was during the construction and at the completion of the magnificent new state office building which crowns Capitol Hill. . . The little sketches are intended to contain warmer, more human accounts of the gentlemen mentioned. The cartoons, which take the place of photographs, are in keeping with that spirit of informality.” Includes notables such as then NY State Governor Franklin Roosevelt, former Govenor Alfred E. Smith (for whom that magnificent state office building was later named), U. S. Senator Robert F. Wagner, Mayor of Albany John Boyd Thatcher, 2nd., Dan O’Connell, legendary Albany Democratic Party boss, and Edward J. Keegan, longtime Sheriff of Albany County. Corners and spine ends bumped with a little wear, covers are stained, spots of wear along edges of boards, end papers toned, front free end paper to about page 8 are wrinkled/creased, each page a little less, small stain on fore edge of text block that does not affect pages, damp stain on rear end papers and at top of gutter, last few pages. The text of the book is clean (except as noted) and unmarked, no previous owner marks or notations; binding is sound. Illustrator: Neigher, Harry; Spencer, Edward. Quantity Available: 1.
