Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Presentation copy signed by Major General William F. Barry (1818-1879) to William C. Lovering (1835-1910), the Quartermaster of Engineers in the Second Massachusetts Brigade during the Civil War. Lovering later served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts (1897-1910). William F. Barry was chief of artillery under Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan and Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman. He was appointed to Brigadier General in 1861 and Major General in 1865. Maroon cloth over boards, 230 pages. Only frontispiece remains, lacks all 18 maps and plans. Covers stained, corners and spine ends bumped and lightly worn, hinge exposed at front fly leaf, board still firmly attached, scattered staining in book. Quantity Available: 0.
