Description: Polish politician and labor activist Lech Walesa (b. 1943) signed this circular for the Lech Walesa Institute, a foundation with a mission to “[consolidate] democracy and the free market economy in Poland” and to safeguard Poland’s “national heritage and the tradition of struggle for independence and solidarity”.
Walesa co-founded and served as the head of Solidarity, the Soviet bloc’s first independent trade union, and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983. He also served as Poland’s second President (1990-1995), overseeing the transition from communism to a post-communist state.
The flyer features a serious portrait photograph of Walesa as well as information about the Institute in both Polish and English. It measures: 8 ¼” x 7 7/8” when unfolded. Item #A01011.
