Description: This “from life” CDV photograph displays the profile of Joseph Hooker (1814-1879), a career soldier who rose to the rank of Major General of the Union Army during the Civil War. Though he had a reputation for serving with distinction, Hooker is best remembered for his unfortunate defeat by Confederate General Robert E. Lee in 1863 at the Battle of Chancellorsville.

Condition: Pencil identification at bottom blank margin, two small spots at upper left edge, ruled line trimmed at lower edge, otherwise good condition.
