Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. The Fourth Edition enlarged. Full leather, vignette on title page, xxvii, 355 pages, cxviii, [xxx], [1] Errata. Both covers detached but present, covers worn with pieces of leather missing, spine worn & chipped at both ends, spine label faded, gilt decoration on spine faded, front free end paper detached, offsetting on title page from cover, previous owners’ names on title page, interior moderately toned, scattered stains & soil though majority of the text is in very good condition last signature detached and present, errata sheet has archival repair to diagonal tear. On the front paste down is a bookplate belonging to Hugh McLean, an early American engraved bookplate designed by Peter Maverick (or possibly Peter Rushton Maverick; no initials); below the bookplate is the signature P. F. Ferguson and the date 1865, possibly a Confederate soldier of the 23rd Georgia Infantry who was held prisoner in a Union hospital for a time; and finally stamped on the front free end paper is the name Carlos F. MacDonald. Dr. Carlos F. MacDonald, (1845-1926) was the psychiatrist who examined Leon F. Czolgosz after the assassination of President William McKinley.
