Description: American naturalist and nature essayist, John Burroughs (1837-1921), signed and addressed this envelope to Dr. O. Howard Cobb of The NY State Hospital for Crippled Children (West Haverstraw, NY) in August of 1911. Having grown up on a farm in the Catskill Mountains of New York State, Burroughs was very interested in nature and wrote numerous nature-themed essays which were often published in popular magazines. Burroughs became close friends with Walt Whitman, and even published the first biography of the poet, Notes on Walt Whitman as Poet and Person in 1867. He also associated with such famous personalities as Thomas Edison, Theodore Roosevelt and Henry Ford.
Envelope measures 3 ¾” x 6 ¼”. Item #A00625.
Condition: Some light soiling, a fold line, and the right side of the envelope was roughly opened, otherwise in very good condition.
