Description: This sepia tone photograph captures four mountain goats staring squarely into Huffman’s camera… perfectly posed. Image is signed in the negative at the lower right “L.A. Huffman”. Verso has the stamp of the Caffrin Studio in Miles City, Montana. Jack Caffrin leased all 1300+ Huffman negatives from his daughter and printed and sold photographs from the original negatives.

Laton Alton Huffman (1851-1931), born in Iowa, arrived in Miles City, Montana in 1879. He continued to live and work in Eastern Montana producing a large body of work documenting the land, the cattle industry, and the Native Americans.

Condition: Very good condition, hinged to a piece of mat board.
