Description: This splendid image by Huffman shows a wagon train pulled by a dozen horses advancing through a rocky expansive landscape. It is numbered, titled, signed and dated in the negative: “#383 Jerk-line twelve on the old freight road Neg. Print & Copyright by LA Huffman Milestown 1883”.

Verso has the stamp of the Coffrin Studio in Miles City, Montana. Jack Coffrin leased all 1300+ Huffman negatives from his daughter and printed and sold photographs from the original negatives. 9″ x 11″ plus mat. Item #P00153

Laton Alton Huffman (1851-1931), born in Iowa, arrived in Miles City, Montana in 1879. He continued to live and work in Eastern Montana producing a large body of work documenting the land, the cattle industry, and the Native Americans.

Condition: Slight bleed-through of the two spots of hinging tape on verso, a few errant spots, otherwise very good.
