Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Brown cloth over boards, blind stamped decoration on front cover, gilt stamped title and decoration on spine, 7 Cruikshank plates from sketches by the author, drawing by Sir William Gell on title page, xii, 259 pages, Addenda (consisting of List of the Turkish Fleet in the Bosporus, Mohammed Ali’s Navy, State of the Thermometer at Constantinople from May 6 to June 3 Inclusive, and Note to Page 24), another small drawing by Gell in text. Book is cocked, covers, corners, spine ends, edges of boards, worn & rubbed, cloth missing at head and tail of spine, head of spine chipped, clothed cracked in middle of spine, some page notations on front free end paper in pencil, remnants of an article previously affixed to the front paste down, frontispiece plate detached top 2 inches, offsetting from frontispiece onto title page, interior intermittently foxed, toned, a damp stain that affects the top edge of some of the pages, inner hinges cracked with separation between pages 48 and 49 at top of gutter, all plates foxed to some degree.
