Description: This is a discarded “artifact” from the collection of Robert Rauschenberg: the lid to a large crate addressed to the artist at 381 Lafayette Street, New York, New York. “Over 2,000 years old” is written twice on the lid. A faint stamp indicates the contents came from TARSHISH J. Zadok and Sons, an antiquities dealer in Jerusalem. This piece of plywood has the faint sensibility of one of Rauschenberg’s combines that fearlessly merged the realms of kitsch and fine art, painting and sculpture, the exotic and the common. Similarly, his personal collection of antiques and folk art swept genres, continents and centuries. Measures 24"x 65 3/4". Wired on the back to hang on the wall. Item #DA00098.

Condition: Very good
