Description
Description: This elaborate illuminated manuscript bound is a memorial to “Commander General Major General Alexander Stewart Webb, one of the most distinguished Officers of the Civil War and Commander General of this Order [National Commandery of the Military Order of Foreign Wars]”. This document was created for the 6th Tri-Annual Convention of the Commandery which was held in Hartford, CT May 19, 1911.
The last paragraph states: “Resolved, That this tribute to his memory be entered upon the Minutes of the General Commandery and an engrossed Copy be sent to his family.” It is then signed by the “current” commanding officers.
Alexander Stewart Webb (1835-1911), Union General during the Civil War, received the Medal of Honor for gallantry at the Battle of Gettysburg. Post war he served as president of the City College of New York for thirty-three years.
Four 10″ x 7 1/2″ leaves bound in limp pebbled leather with the front board gold stamped: “Alexander Stewart Webb”. Item #AM00359
