Description: The Albany, NY art and frame dealers Annesley & Vint for many years handled Remington’s art. In this short autograph letter signed Remington states: “My dear Mr. Annesley will you kindly send the canoe picture to Ashler & Stabb #681 Sixth Avenue New York [??] I guess Albany doesn’t want it, I have a chance here–“.

Frederic Remington (1861-1909) was born in Canton, NY and as a young man his family moved to Ogdensburg, NY. After graduating from Yale in 1879 he held clerical jobs in Albany, NY. After he married, he spent most of his creative years living and working from their home in New Rochelle, NY. Though as a painter, illustrator, sculptor, his themes were of the American West, he was somewhat New York-centric. Having an Albany, NY art dealer makes sense in that context.
