Description: In this rather admonitory Oct 17 autograph letter signed, Thomas Dibdin writes:

“My dear Sir, Am I to construe your silence into a declination of my plan? You know–or ought to know—how much curious history precedes on sacred text of G. [There were or are?] 2 prefatory dedications; one to Anne Boleyn, another to Lady Jane Seymour. Look to’t.”

 

Written on one side of a 7” x 4 ½” piece of wove paper. Signed with Dibdin’s initials/monogram. Item #A01106.

 

Rev. Thomas Frognall Dibdin (1776 –1847) was an English bibliographer. The first of his numerous bibliographical works was his Introduction to the Knowledge of Editions of the Classics (1802). In 1818, the second Earl Spencer commissioned him to buy books for him on the continent. He later published Bibliotheca Spenceriana, and supplements which are descriptive catalogues of Lord Spencer’s collections. He was appointed to the rectory of St Mary’s, Bryanston Square, a position he held until his death.
