Description: British Poet Laureate John Masefield (1878-1967) signed this printed letter which reads: “Dear [Mr. Beach], I thank you for your very kind letter of congratulation. I regret that it is not possible for me to thank all my gracious friends with a written letter. With all good wishes, Yours sincerely, [J. Masefield]”. Masefield has, in his hand, written in “Mr. Beach”, personalizing this form letter which Masefield apparently sent to his numerous fans.
John Masefield (1878-1967) is best known for his children’s novels, The Midnight Folk and The Box of Delights, and the poems, The Everlasting Mercy and “Sea-Fever”. He was Poet Laureate from 1930 to 1967.
Letter measures 7” x 4 ½” and is imprinted: “Boars Hill, Oxford.” Item #A01454
