Description: Evan Hunter (1926-2005), also known as Ed McBain, boldly signed this typed letter to Mr. Pitcherale in which he discusses his novel, The Blackboard Jungle. He thanks Pitcherale for his letter and that he was “particularly pleased that you enjoyed the Rick-Anne relationship, a portion of the novel which was overlooked by many reviewers in favor of the more pressing school problem presented.” The Blackboard Jungle drew on Hunter’s brief experience as a teacher at Bronx Vocational High School in September of 1950.
 
The Blackboard Jungle was adapted into a 1955 film directed by Richard Brooks and starring Glenn Ford and Sidney Poitier. Evan Hunter also wrote a successful series of crime novels known as the 87th Precinct novels under the name Ed McBain.
 
Typed on a piece of stationery imprinted with “Evan Hunter” and “Scott Meredith Literary Agency”. Measures: 6 7/8” x 4 ¼”. Item #A01021.
