Description: American pianist Victor Wittgenstein (1886-1961) inscribed and signed this halftone image taken from a drawing: “To my pupil and little friend Adele Goldwarb from ever sincerely Victor Wittgenstein N.Y. Oct/22”.
Wittgenstein trained as a pianist in New York City with Edward McDowell and Rafael Joseffy, and in Europe with Varette Stepanoff. He taught Aaron Copland for two seasons (c. 1917-1918), who reportedly described Wittgenstein’s instruction as “not very memorable”.
