Description: This charming oil on canvas depicts a young man with piercing eyes and a blunt cut mop of hair. Painting is boldly signed upper right: “Philip Schuyler”.

Philip Griffin Schuyler (1910-1981) was an officer during World War II. His art career blossomed during the Vietnam War era, and he is mostly recognized for a series of paintings he did of the war and portraits of soldiers who served in Vietnam. He was responsible for building a Fine Arts Department at the University of Santa Clara, California.
