Description: In the finest wood engraving tradition, Cheffetz rendered this idyllic rural scene with precision and remarkable tonal variation.
It is signed at the lower right in graphite: “Asa Cheffetz”, and initialed in the plate at the lower left.
Image size: 4 1/2″ x 9″, printed on a 9 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ sheet of paper, c. 1946. Matted with acid-free mat board to: 14″ x 18″. Item #PR00498
Asa Cheffetz (1897-1965) was a wood engraver whose studio was in Springfield, MA. He was a member of the National Academy and his works are in the collections of numerous prestigious art institutions, including: Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, Baltimore Museum of Art, etc.
Condition: Two pieces of hinging tape on upper recto corners, several short pencil-like lines just hidden by mat window, otherwise very good.
