Description: African-American composer and conductor, Leonard de Paur (1914-1998), boldly signed this program in pencil for a 1950 production of De Paur’s Infantry Chorus at the Troy [NY] Music Hall.
By 1936, de Paur was already the musical director of the Negro Unit of the Federal Theater Project in New York City. As a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during WWII, he directed the play Winged Victory, which later became a great success on Broadway. De Paur was also assigned to an all-male chorus during his stint in the infantry, which resulted in the De Paur Infantry Chorus.
