Description: This large abstract expressionistic monotype features alternating “brush strokes” of gray, blue, red and green in a creamy field of floating green dots. It is signed and dated in graphite lower right: “Jack Kainen ’79”. At the bottom edge it is titled in graphite: “Zenocrate II”.

24″ x 18″ printed on a deckled edge sheet of heavy wove paper measuring 30″ x 22 1/4″. Item #PR00511

Jacob Kainen (1909-2001), painter, printmaker and art historian, served as curator of the Smithsonian’s Division of Graphic Arts from 1942 to 1970.

Condition: One tiny spot in blank margin upper right, otherwise very good.
