Description: This captioned photo shows the waist-up profile of an older Rickenbacker holding a portrait of his uniformed self from his time in the Air Force. He is smiling and standing next to one of his adopted sons, William F. Rickenbacker, who penned the introduction to his father’s  book: From Father to Son: The Letters of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker. Both are dressed in suits and standing in front of an American flag.

The caption reads: “From Father to Son: The Letters of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, edited and with an introduction by William F. Rickenbacker, will be published on November 11, 1970 by Walker & Company, New York”.

Eddie Rickenbacker (1890-1973) was America’s most successful fighter ace in World War I having won 26 aerial victories. He also worked as a race car driver and automotive designer, a government consultant in military matters and a pioneer in air transportation.

Rickenbacker boldly signed “Capt Eddie Rickenbacker 1972” under the caption. Image measures approximately: 6” x 4 ½”. Overall: 8” x 5”. Item #A01345
