Description: In a somewhat abstract expressionist style, Janco has rendered a rider atop a horse reminiscent of imagery of Don Quixote astride his faithful steed Rocinate. Broad strokes and vibrant colors give an enhanced sense of movement.
This oil on cardboard is signed lower left: “Janco.” Marcel Janco (1895-1984), artist, architect, and art theorist, was a leading force in the emergence of Dadaism and Constructivism in Eastern Europe. He became an influential practitioner and promoter of Futurism and Cubism. Faced with rising anti-Semitism, he ultimately settled in Israel.
