Description: In this powerful abstract expressionist painting Janco has fused richly colored geometric forms with explosive linear impasto slashes. It is accomplished in oil paint on cardboard which is signed boldly at the lower left: “Janco” and housed in its original light blue wide board frame.

Marcel Janco (1895-1984), artist, architect, and art theorist, was a leading force in the emergence of Dadaism and Constructivism in Eastern Europe. He became an influential practitioner and promoter of Futurism and Cubism. Faced with rising anti-semitism, he ultimately settled in Israel.
