Description: We offer a signed lithographic mezzotint by Robert Von Neumann which was the annual print for the Print Club of Albany (1953-1954). It is 9 ¼” x 13 ⅞” on a sheet of paper which measures: 12 ⅜” x 16 ¼”. It is signed and titled along the bottom margin in graphite. Neumann shows a group of five fisherman relaxing at the docks by playing cards and is rendered with a cinematic attention to light and composition. A quotidian moment brought into focus and a fine example of late-Regionalism. This is a superb impression with remarkable contrast and crisp details. Item #PR00389.

Robert Von Neumann (1888-1972) was born in Rostock, Germany. He studied at the Royal Academy in Berlin. During WWI he served four years in the German Infantry. He immigrated to the US in 1926 and almost immediately made his presence known in Wisconsin art scene. Neumann taught extensively over his career at the Layton School of Art, the State Teacher’s College in Milwaukee and was a visiting professor at the Chicago Art Institute. His work is in the collections of the Milwaukee Art Institute, the Chicago Art Institute, the Syracuse Art Institute, the Library of Congress and the Biblioteque Nationale de Paris.

Condition: There are two small  remnants of adhesive tape on recto at the top corners, as issued (hinged) by the Albany Print Club, otherwise the print is in very good condition.
