Description: In this classic war poster, designed by Lyman Anderson, a factory worker gestures to a background with soldiers involved in an intense battle… “They’ll Let Us Know When to Quit!”.
The poster was published by the War Manpower Commission in 1944.
Lyman Anderson (1907-1993) had a lengthy career as an illustrator and cartoonist, starting out with pulps and cartoon strips. By 1939 Anderson had moved up to illustrating interior stories for slick magazines, including Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, Liberty, Reader’s Digest, The Saturday Evening Post, and Woman’s Home Companion. He was too old to serve in the military during WWII, but he executed numerous illustrations contributing to the war effort. He also created many advertisements for major companies, such as General Electric, Goodyear, Mobil Oil, Pan-American Airlines, Pepsi, and Proctor & Gamble.
