Description: Mexican-American actor Ramon Novarro (1899-1968) signed this friendly typed letter in 1941 in which he thanks Mary Knowles for the “delightful birthday card.” He writes, “It seems to me that the older I get the more I enjoy my birthdays!”
 
Novarro began his career in silent films and later became a leading man and sex symbol in the 1920s and 30s. He struggled with alcoholism throughout his life due to his conflicting feelings about his homosexuality and his Roman Catholic faith. He died as a result of asphyxiation after two men pretending to be prostitutes robbed and beat him.
