Description: A rich strike of this Locke etching which features a very textured view of three trees with intertwined root systems. Titled, signed and dated in graphite at the lower margin: ” ‘Against the Wind’ W. R. Locke ’39”.

Platemark: 8 1/4″ x 11 3/4″. Printed on an 11 1/4″ x 16 1/8″ sheet of cream wove paper. Item #PR00444

Walter Ronald Locke (1883-1949) studied art with Louis Krombert and Alfred Hutty. Much of his active art years were spent in Florida and many of his etchings were of the Florida landscape. His works are in numerous prominent art institutions including: Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Carnegie Museum, Yale University Art Gallery, etc.

Condition: Two small pieces of hinging tape at upper recto corners, otherwise very good.
