Description: Just a few months after German President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler Chancellor of Germany, Wise writes in part: “…I too feel as you do that the attitude of many German-born Jews and Jews of German descent toward the question of Hitlerism is just incredible… I have no time for reading now, in truth, for anything excepting work connected with helping our Jewish brothers in Germany…”

This April 6, 1933 typed letter signed is written on an 11″ x 8 1/2″ sheet of stationery imprinted: “Free Synagogue New York”. Item #A01747

Stephen Samuel Wise (1874-1949), American Reform Rabbi, was a major force in the Zionist movement in America, was president of the World Jewish Congress, and was a founding member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Condition: Mailing fold lines, otherwise very good with an exceptionally strong signature.
