Description: Livingston Farrand (1867-1939), the American physician, anthropologist, and public health advocate, signed this succinct typed letter to Dean F. K. Richtmyer acknowledging a letter he had received concerning “the action of the Committee on Publication of the Cornell University Press with regard to the manuscript submitted by Professor A. W. Smith.”
Farrand studied at Princeton and the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, as well as the Universities of Cambridge and Berlin. Throughout his illustrious career he served as the executive secretary of the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis, the treasurer of the American Public Health Association (1912-1914), the president of the University of Colorado (1914-1919), Chairman of the Central Committee of the American Red Cross, and the fourth president of Cornell University.
This letter was sent in 1933 when Farrand was President of Cornell University and is typed on his personal “President’s Office” imprinted stationery. 10 ½” x 8”. Item #A00797.
