Description: Thirty-first President of the United States Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) signed this brief note to an admirer on August 19, 1933 [several months after leaving office]. The message reads: “I wish to thank you for your friendly note of birthday greeting. It was thoughtful of you to remember my birthday, and I want you to know that I appreciate it.”
Hoover’s presidency is remembered for the beginning of the Great Depression, with the stock market crash occurring only eight months into his first year. He served one term, losing the presidency to Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the election of 1932.
Typed on a 10 3/8″ x 7 1/4″ sheet of Hoover’s personal stationery. Item #A01481
