Description: While serving as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Charles Evans Hughes (1862-1948) signed this brief typed note on April 17, 1933, thanking a Mr. Beach for his birthday wishes. Hughes writes: “I have received your letter of April 14th and I warmly appreciate your birthday greetings.”

Signed on a 10 1/2″ x 8″ sheet of “Supreme Court of the United States” imprinted stationery. Item #A01641

Charles Evans Hughes served as Governor of New York and Associate Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court before running for president in 1916. He later served as U. S. Secretary of State and, from 1930-1941, Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court.
Condition: Mailing fold lines, letter was stored in one of those ubiquitous “sticky” page photo albums and the glue from the page has migrated to the recto of the letter leaving light tidy stripes.  Generally good condition with a large, bold signature.
