Description: In 1932 Equinox Cooperative Press published Llewelyn Powys’ book Now That the Gods are Dead in a limited edition of 400. It was illustrated with four wood engravings by famed illustrator Lynd Ward. We offer the suite of four engravings on Japanese paper that Ward issued in an edition of 20. These are all marked in graphite: “15/20” and also signed and dated in graphite: “Lynd Ward 1932″.

Each image measures: 6″ x 3 3/4″, three are printed on 9″ x 6 3/4″ sheets of paper, one is 8″ x 5 1/2”. Item #PR00591

Lynd Ward (1905-1985), American artist, illustrator, and novelist, is often credited with providing the catalyst for today’s graphic novels with his wordless novels… God’s ManPrelude to a Million Years, etc.

Condition: All are lightly toned, all are mounted with four small strips of paper tape at the corners, generally good condition. A scarce and powerful set of images.
