Description

Description: In 1932, American illustrator Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966) wrote out and signed this check for $29.50 to H. T. Dewey and Sons, a wine merchant.

Parrish made a name for himself with his saturated hues and idealized, androgynous figures set in fantastical landscapes. He illustrated numerous children’s books, created advertisements, and worked with popular magazines like Harper’s Bazaar. His 1922 work, Daybreak, was the most popular art print of the 20th century.

 3” x 8 ¼”. Item #A00917.

Condition: There is a perforated cancellation (not affecting signature) and two small pieces of cloth tape on the verso from a previous mounting; otherwise this check is in very good condition complete with Parrish’s characteristically bold, decorative signature.
