Description

Description: In 1931, Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944) hastily scrawled this kind note to a fan with Gibson’s “Many thanks for your good wishes on my birthday.”

Written on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of stationery that is imprinted at the top right corner: “Seven Hundred Acre Island Dark Harbor Maine”. Item #A01562

Gibson was an American illustrator forever connected to images of attractive young women. His “Gibson girls” appeared in Colliers, Harper’s Weekly, Scribners, Life, numerous books, calendars, etc. Post WWI he worked as editor of Life.

Condition: Mailing fold lines, the flourish at the end of “Gibson” is feathered, letter had been stored in one of those ubiquitous “sticky” page photo albums and the glue from the page has migrated to the recto of the letter leaving light tidy stripes. Generally good condition with a very large, bold signature.
