Description
Description: American historian and philosopher William Durant (1885-1981) inked this short note which reads: “Joseph Cohen’s ‘The Jews in America’ discusses Columbus’ relations with the Jews.” Indeed, whether Christopher Columbus himself was Jewish is still a topic of conversation among historians.
Durant is best known for his 11-volume work, A Story of Civilization, co-authored with his wife, Ariel Kaufman, in which they detail the histories of Eastern and Western societies. For the 10th volume of the publication, Rousseau and Revolution (1967), the Durants were awarded a Pulitzer Prize, and in 1977 they were awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom for their work by Gerald Ford.
