It is on thin sketch paper measuring 7 ⅞” x 10 ¾”, signed and dated at the lower left with style: “A.R. Janson Oct. 17, 20” and identified at the lower right: “AXO, Syracause University”. The drawing is well handled with excellent proportions and all the charming details of Tudor architecture. Item #FA00204.
The Lambda Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega was installed on December 18, 1906 at Syracuse University.
Andrew R. Janson (b.1900) was a natural history illustrator. In his early career he made crests (and house portraits apparently) for fraternities across the United States. His notable illustrations include those for the New York State College of Forestry, the Florida Board of Parks and Historic Memorials, Natural History magazine and the Boy Scout Handbooks.
Condition: The paper has several creases, there are two small tears at the top and right margins. It is lightly tipped at the corners to a mat board. An attractive drawing in generally good condition.
