Description: In this autograph letter signed, Cleveland responds to the author of a paper entitled “Blackmail.” He makes his own opinion known on how to deal with extortionists… “long sentences, the dog whip and fist propelling muscle.”
The recipient of the letter, and author of the paper on blackmail, is Charles E. Felton who was the first superintendent of the Chicago House of Correction.
Grover Cleveland (1837-1908) was Mayor of Buffalo, Governor of New York, and then served two non-consecutive terms as U.S. President.
