Description: In September of 1893, Abbey wrote to the Secretary of the recently established American Fine Arts Society, Herbert Denman: "Enclosed please find temporary receipts for payments upon my certificates of stock in the American Fine Arts Soc. – Kindly send the certificates of stock at your convenience, as suggested in your communication of April 3rd last. Your note had been mislaid and forgotten until within a few days." He neatly signs off, "Respectfully yours, Edwin A. Abbey."

Written on pages one and four of a sheet of Abbey’s blue flecked stationery, with his "Morgan Hall, Fairford, Gloucestershire" address (though American by birth, he made England his permanent home in 1883) embossed at the upper right of page one. Measures approximately 7" x 9" when unfolded. Item #A00893.

Edwin Austin Abbey (1852-1911) was a highly regarded illustrator, painter, and muralist. He is particularly well known for his illustrations of literary works such as Shakespeare, his official painting of the coronation of King Edward VII, and his murals at the Boston Public Library and the Pennsylvania Capitol.

Condition: Fold lines, spots of adhesive residue on blank pages two and three, light soil. Generally in very good condition, and very easy to display the whole letter thanks to Abbey’s habit of using adjacent pages for his shorter letters.
