Description: In a sweetly looping hand, American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) gives a friendly critique of poems he was sent. The letter reads: “Dear Sir, I have read with interest and pleasure the poems you have sent me. They are written with a light and delicate touch, and show much poetic feeling. Yours truly Henry W. Longfellow”.
Longfellow’s most famous works include Paul Revere’s Ride, The Song of Hiawatha, and Evangeline. He was the first American to translate Dante’s Divine Comedy, and was one of the New England Fireside Poets.
