Enders was born in Milwaukee, WI and studied under German-American artist Henry Vianden (1814-1899). Beginning in 1879, the year this sketchbook is dated, Enders studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. In 1901, Enders was one of the original founders of the Society of Milwaukee Artists, later known as Wisconsin Painters & Sculptors/Wisconsin Artists (WP&S) and today known as Wisconsin Visual Artists (WVA). He was a faculty member at the Milwaukee Art Students’ League, specializing in copper etchings.
